The OmniOne Open DID Project aims to enhance the authenticity and reliability of digital identity verification by developing a standardized and interoperable framework. The components of OmniOne Open DID define and develop methods for establishing a chain of trust between components to build a trust environment based on Digital IDs.
The components issue certificates reflecting trust levels and roles based on digital IDs, and provide functionality to verify the trustworthiness of participating entities by referencing these certificates.
It supports the creation of an ecosystem that robustly and securely protects personal information by leveraging decentralized identity control and cryptographic techniques.
Here are the key entities for establishing the trust environment of OmniOne Open DID.
- Trust Repository(TR) : Repository which manages trust domains
- Trust Agent Service(TAS) : Service which registers and manages participating entities to be trusted
- Issuer Service(IS) : Service which issues and manages Digital IDs
- Verifier Service(VS) : Service which verifies Digital IDs
- Wallet Service(WS) : Service which provides wallet functions
Each entity registers with the TAS to establish a Trust Chain, and the TAS issues trust certificates to the registered entities.
Trust certificates adhere to the W3C Verifiable Credentials Data Model v2.0.
Need for OmniOne Open DID
OmniOne Open DID started from the need for digital ID as national infrastructure.
Digital ID serves as a fundamental "national infrastructure" essential for political participation, social rights, and the pursuit of happiness.
It is a basic means for activities such as education, finance, healthcare, welfare, and voting. However, over 1.3 billion people worldwide lack legal identification, with the majority concentrated in Africa and Western Asia. The absence of a digital ID restricts access to crucial services like healthcare and education and limits political and economic participation, making it a global social challenge.

The goal of providing legal identification, including birth registration, to everyone by 2030 has been adopted as one of the 169 targets of the SDGs. International organizations such as the World Bank and the UN actively support the adoption of digital ID platforms in developing countries. Specifically, in 2014, the World Bank launched the Identification for Development (ID4D) initiative, leveraging global networks and expertise to support SDG achievement. Additionally, ID4Africa was established with the support of the World Bank and the UN, focusing on Africa. Private philanthropic organizations like the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Omidyar Network are also expanding support for similar initiatives.

The Governance Working Group manages community operations, policies, and institutional arrangements. It aims to improve contributor development, uphold ethical standards, ensure regulatory compliance, and support the association's goals through collaboration and promotion.

We aim to enhance the usability of open-source-based DID, lead open innovation, and advance the global e-government market by standardizing DID technology, expanding global networks, and promoting the excellence of K-DID in the global market.
Through the OmniOne Open DID Community, we aim to accelerate ecosystem expansion by fostering continuous open innovation through collaboration and sharing among diverse contributors. We will also build a national network for K-DID expansion, support national DID systems, and promote international connections, leading the global standardization of Digital ID based on K-DID open-source solutions.
In collaboration with the UN and World Bank, we are committed to realizing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by supporting the introduction of mobile IDs in developing and underdeveloped countries. We aim to provide a fully interoperable digital identity that ensures connectivity, continuity, and accessibility. We will continue to advance the standardization of OmniOne Open DID on this journey.
