Following the launch of mobile identity cards based on blockchain digital ID, the era of the ISIC International Student Identity Card has begun. As a result, the innovations brought by blockchain digital ID are expanding from national identity systems into the education sector, significantly broadening their scope.
Recently, the announcement of the blockchain-based DID ISIC International Student Identity Card has drawn the attention of the blockchain industry. At the end of April, IT security and certification platform company RaonSecure partnered with KISSESS, the Korean representative office of the ISIC Association, and Future & More, which operates university academic systems, to launch the ISIC International Student Identity Card based on its integrated SaaS platform, OmniOne Digital ID. RaonSecure has previously established mobile driver's licenses, mobile veterans' registration certificates, and mobile government employee cards using its blockchain digital ID technology.
While some private companies have previously offered mobile student ID services, the blockchain-based DID student ID service represented by the ISIC International Student Identity Card is the first of its kind. Students from partner universities can obtain the DID ISIC International Student Identity Card through the OmniOne app, enjoying the same benefits as the traditional plastic card version.
The ISIC International Student Identity Card is issued by the ISIC Association to full-time students who attend accredited educational institutions for at least 15 hours a week. Students holding the ISIC card can enjoy various discounts, including on public transportation such as the Airport Railroad and Seoul City Tour Bus, as well as at many art galleries, museums, and various tourism products across South Korea. Additionally, they can benefit from discounts on educational services like English courses at the British Council, as well as when purchasing laptops or tablets, exchanging currency at preferential rates during international travel, and more. They also have access to various benefits through service partners in over 100 countries worldwide.
With the introduction of this first blockchain DID-based international student ID, it is expected that the blockchain digital ID technology, which has already shown significant promise in digital identity applications, will continue to expand and be integrated into various aspects of everyday life, particularly in the education sector.
